I would like to praise Mr Kosuge and his team for the fantastic job they has done with my total hip replacement on 17th may 2018. Although I was apprehensive about the operation Dennis reassured me that everything would be carefully planned and that it was a well practiced operation. I am now 7 weeks post op. The hip scar has knitted together famously. Obviously there is still some discomfort which is only to be expected. Mr Kosuge was pleased with the way I was progressing and said that it could be up to 12 months before total recovery.I look forward to getting my life back to normal and can only thank everyone for all they have done for me .

I am very grateful to Mr Kosuge who performed a very skillful surgery on my finger following a complicated break. Mr Kosuge treated me with total respect, kindness and professionalism. I am on the mend and can expect a full recovery. I was given my options and had no doubt I wanted Mr Kosuge to perform the surgery he suggested to improve my future mobility. Thank you sir, you are a credit to your profession. By the way the staff I met at Princess Alexandra and Herts and Essex hospitals were, without exception, amazing. Thank you.

Prior to my TKR my ability to walk any distance had gradually been eroded over the previous 12 to 14 months, following my operation and entirely within the time frame advised by Mr Kosuge I am now walking better and further than for many years , this is due in no small part to Mr Kosuge's advice to lost weight ( and therefore lower my BMI ) not only for the operation but for my on subsiquent recovery. Following my last appointment with Mr Kusuge I feel totally confident that if I have any issues before my next appointment I can contact him and discuss them .

On meeting Mr Kosuge I was immediately put at ease and he explained what my diagnosis was and treatment options were in a language I understood. He was very patient and listened. I was not put under any pressure to have treatment. I went away and thought about my options. At my next appointment we discussed my hip replacement. I was anxious and Mr Kosuge answered all my questions, none of which I was made to feel silly asking. I felt at ease and felt this was the best option. Mr Kosuge went through the operation, what happens before and after. I was made aware of risks and complications and what I needed to do to get the best out of operation. I came away feeling reassured that I was doing the right thing for my quality of life and that I was in very capable hands with Mr Kosuge. On the day of my operation I was extremely nervous and anxious. Mr Kosuge came see me and again put me at ease. I next saw him when I was having my spinal block. He again asked how I was and made me feel calmer and managed to get me to laugh. After the operation when I was back in my room he came to see me asking how I was feeling and told me how the operation had gone. The next few days Mr Kosuge came to check on me each day. I would like to thank Mr Kosuge for being so professional, caring and down to earth. The care before and after has been outstanding, I really felt he cared about my feelings and me as a person. I am so happy with my new hip, am pain free and have been so supported. I did listen and do everything Mr Kosuge recommended- including wearing those stocking he said I’d hate! He is an amazing man and surgeon. I feel lucky to have met him and had him do my operation. I’d like to thank the staff at the hospital I met. The nursing team were so professional and caring. I was really looked after, reassured and made to feel comfortable. The staff in theatre were again very professional and I was extremely nervous and just wanted to go home. Niall especially made me laugh and told jokes. My anaesthetist was great he was calm and reassuring explained all my options and was fantastic doing my spinal block. I had previously had problems during pregnancy with spinal blocks. No problems this time. The physio team were fabulous helping me walk and since being home I’ve rang a few times since being home asking questions which have been answered and Amy has been brilliant helping me with my recovery. She is patient and explains everything fully. The whole team have been amazing and my life will change for the better after having my operation at The Rivers. Thank you .

Profile

Mr Kosuge developed his passion for Trauma & Orthopaedics as a junior doctor and pursued this by enrolling onto the North-East Thames Percival Pott Orthopaedic Training Programme. His training took him to prestigious centres including The Royal London Hospital, The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. He was inspired by a number of his excellent trainers to focus on the subspecialty of hip and knee joint replacements.

Following completion of specialist training in the United Kingdom, he enrolled onto and successfully completed a one-year fellowship at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in Australia under the auspices of Professor Donald Howie. This fellowship allowed Mr Kosuge to refine his skills in hip and knee joint replacements, as well as revision hip replacements. During his orthopaedic training, he was the recipient of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) Zimmer Adult Reconstruction Hips and Knees Fellowship in 2014, the AOTrauma Fellowship in 2013 and the Tohoku University Orthopaedic Visiting Fellowship in 2010 – and utilised his time visiting, learning and exchanging ideas with centres of excellence in Japan.
